Spokane Avenue Residence
The owners loved their dense residential neighborhood but wanted to give their split-level Mission-style house more space and a modern aesthetic. On their wish list: a master suite, dedicated work spaces and storage, and a remodeled kitchen and dining area.
A new single-story rear addition includes a serene master bedroom and bath that nestle around a small pocket garden. Sets of sliding glass doors separate a compact, colorful office from the hallway and the yard. Corner windows and skylights evenly illuminate the new spaces in warm sunlight.
We opened up the kitchen and dining rooms to create one large space with a clean, timeless style that ties together the traditional and modern sides of the home. A raised concrete countertop rings the U-shaped kitchen, defining the work zone while shielding it from view. From the front door, a widened entry hall and new built-in storage frame a vista that includes the addition.
