Middlefield Residence Photo Shoot

Apr 22, 2016 by Hiromi Ogawa

We just finished photographing our Middlefield Residence project with Cesar Rubio, one of our favorite photographers.

It was an intense day of shooting, and a very successful one.

We previously worked with Cesar to photograph the Waverley Street Residences. We appreciate his intuition for great shots - he often suggests angles that we never would have imagined on our own.

Special thanks to the homeowners, who provided us full access to their beautiful home. The owners have an impressive art collection, and it was a pleasure to work in such a well-curated space.

We look forward to sharing the final photos with you soon!

Featured on Houzz: The Allure of Warm and Tasteful Accent Tiles in Kitchens

Apr 18, 2016 by Hiromi Ogawa

A new Houzz article in Japanese features our Neilson Street Residence kitchen. We've always loved the use of red accent tiles (complimented by red Caravaggio pendant cords) in this kitchen, and it's nice to know that others like it, too.

We've recently been featured in numerous Houzz articles in different langauges, but this one Hiromi can actually read! The caption states: "This kitchen uses red mosaic tile as an accent. Red is a common food color, like tomatoes and other fruit, and is also called a "kitchen color". If you want your kitchen to feel lively and active, the effect of red tile is tremendous."

We couldn't agree more!

Window Location, Operation, Proportions

Feb 10, 2016 by Hiromi Ogawa

Sucharitha is studying windows for one of our projects.  Things she's looking at:

  • Window location: What or where are we illuminating with natural light?
  • Window operation: Does the window want to open, and if so, how?  How big or small does the operable window want to be?
  • Window proportions: What looks good for the room?  What looks good with the overall volume of the house?

And why not be artful with your sketches in the process?  Thanks, Sucharitha.

Meet Our Newest Designer

Feb 8, 2016 by Rosanna Jackson
We are thrilled to introduce the newest member of our team –Sucharitha Yelimeli. Sucharitha received her B.A. in Architecture from U.C. Berkeley in 2014 and most recently taught fine art classes.

Sucharitha has always been interested in visual art and teaching art. Architecture, for her, is the medium that brings together the diverse disciplines that she loves – art, philosophy, poetry and history. It’s art with a purpose. Her goal as a Designer is to ultimately create a meaningful space for her clients. These are some of the many reasons why Sucharitha is the perfect addition to our office and why we are so pleased to have her on board.

Ross Road Residence Taking Shape

Feb 5, 2016 by Hiromi Ogawa

Construction at the Ross Road Residence is progressing smoothly.  Since the last update, the windows and drywall have been installed, and the wood ceiling is in.

The tongue and groove cedar ceiling panels run through the entire length of this side of the home.  The color and texture add warmth to the rooms, and will age nicely over time.

Penny round accent tiles reach up to the skylight in the shower.  Abundant use of skylights in this one-story home means lots of California sunshine inside the house all year long.

Construction is scheduled to be completed in April - stay tuned!
